“The Future of DITA” Presentation

Late last year I did a presentation for the Boston DITA Users Group on the Future of DITA. December 2019 doesn’t seem that long ago, but so much has changed since the coming of Covid-19. Luckily I can continue to work from home, and I hope that many of my readers are able to do the same. I know that a lot of people are also taking this opportunity to learn remotely, so if you are wanting to learn more about how the DITA standard is cobbled together, then you have come to the right place. In this presentation, I talk about the process of how the DITA standard is made, a look at some of the changes coming to DITA 2.0 and to Lightweight DITA, a brief look at the new multimedia elements, and then a look at the possible futures of DITA and structured content. The presentation runs for just over 40-minutes. And while the information is from December, not a whole lot has changed in terms of new DITA 2.0 features, other than a few of the draft features mentioned here have now progressed to the final stage. We are still some way off before the DITA 2.0 specification is launched, possibly by the end of 2020 though I would say that early 2021 is more likely.

The full video presentation can be viewed (for free, no signup is necessary!) from the Boston DITA Users Group presentation page.

If you would like to view the presentation separately, it is also available on SlideShare.net.
