Best Practices for Technical Writers

by Arnold Burian

Welcome to this Certified Technical Writer video training module. This technical writing video module is focused on the best practices for technical writers. There are many best practices we could consider, but we will concentrate on some of the major areas. These have to do with consistency, style, clear writing, ease of use, audience analysis, active voice, chunking, white space, graphics, team-based writing, and ease of skimming.

After completing this module you should be able to describe why a technical writer should keep the focus of writing on reader needs, consider that a narrative may not be enough and graphics can help, know how technical writing differs from other writing, and use a team-based approach to writing.
