Technical Writers in Pop Culture

As with my technical writer community post, I will continue to update this list as I go (with the hope that there is a Baader-Meinhof correlation between my new job and technical writer references), and I may make it fairly general if I can’t find many references to “pure” technical writers.

  • Andy Richter Controls the Universe (TV) – “Andy is a short story writer, who makes his living by working at a huge faceless company in present day Chicago, writing Technical Manuals.” (IMDb)
  • Dilbert (comic strip) – Tina the Technical Writer appears in 178 strips at present (Dilbert.com)
  • Monk (TV) – Monk’s brother Ambrose is a technical writer (TECHWR-L)
  • The Technical Writer (2003 movie) – “A bored housewife (O’Neal) attempts to lure an agoraphobic technical writer (Harris) out of his apartment and into the heart of New York City.” (IMDb)
  • What If (2013 movie) – Wallace, played by Daniel Radcliffe, writes manuals for a living after dropping out of medical school (IMDb)

As usual, if you’re reading this and you know of some references that I’m missing, please share in the comments or on Twitter!
